Anyone have a T5 with an ELECTRONIC speedo that can PM or let me know what their VIN number is? I swapped a T5 into my 91 camaro (used to be auto) and now I need a new speed sensor (mine leaks). Dealer says i need the VIN number so they make sure I get the right part. It's a special order part that can't be returned, so i dont want to take a chance and end up losing $85.

There's nothing in the vin to indicate transmission. Just give them your vin to match up the engine.

 

This is true. But the OP needs an entire VIN for a 5 speed car because the dealership parts computer can ID the parts needed for that exact car.

 

I don't think it can. The details available in the computer are limited for pre 91 cars. They are just asking for the VIN because that's what they are told to do. The dealer will not learn anything from the vin besides the engine code. If you give them the vin from an auto car, they won't know the difference.

 

Actually what i need is the RPO code I believe. Anyone have that?

What will the RPO code tell them? All you need to know is exactly which tranny you swapped in which won't have anything to do with your VIN or RPO.

 

The RPO code is actually for the speed sensor itself, not the trans. Found the code from my originally auto camaro, and purchased the opposite one. Will update when I get the part so anyone else with this same problem can get the right one.
