solid roller lifters on a hydraulic roller cam

Has anybody used a set of solid roller lifters on a hydraulic roller cam ? I have searched the web and it seems like 50/50 whether it will work or not. I have a comp cams 12-602-8 cam and a set of doug herbert horizontal bar solid lifters. The springs I have are rated for up to .600 lift for a flat tappet cam but I have also purchased some solid roller cam springs that have 190 lbs @ 1.900" and 620 lbs @ 1.150" and coil bind at 1.080 if i need to change them. I was just wondering if this would work or if its more trouble than its worth. If any body that's done this some feed back would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to ruin any parts that's why I'm asking thanks in advance

What are you trying to achieve ?

Did you see this

"Successfully running solid lifters on a hydraulic profile requires some amount of valve lash .
This lash effectively reduces cam duration, especially at low lift off the valve seat
With less duration, peak torque and power occur at lower rpm than would normally be the case for the combo if running a hydraulic lifter
in other words, the cam acts smaller".

Won't ruin any parts, in and of itself; just, probably won't run near as good as a correct solid cam of equivalent specs would. Which, given that the part # looks like one of the "Thumpr" cams, you probably don't need to give up any more of that than you have to, since you're already kinda short in that dept.

I'd buy the right cam, if it was me.

Re: solid roller lifters on a hydraulic roller cam

Don't expect similar performance to an identical solid cam. Lobe profiles are completely different. A hydraulic lifter has a profile designed to work with a preload setting inside the lifter. The ramp is a different shape than what a solid cam requires with valve lash.

To save a lot of headaches and possible premature failures, use solid lifters on solid cams and hydraulic lifters on hydraulic cams.

Re: solid roller lifters on a hydraulic roller cam

Thanks for all the input. I have read about running with a tighter valve lash and how it changes the duration and the characteristics of the cam. I have a set of solid roller litters and thought I could save some $$. I'll probably trust save up and get the right litters. Thank you guys again for the help!

Why not save up and get a better cam?

This will ALWAYS get you in trouble. Don't try to be "thrifty" or you'll more than often end up with subpar operation and a fistful of problems to go along with it.

Zackly... there's a time and a place for keeping expenses down, and other times and places where EVERY PENNY you spend brings puts back 2 PENNIES in your pocket.

The secret of life is, {drum roll pleeeeze} knowing which is which.

This would be one of the latter. Won't take very many tanks of gas, or buy-backs in rounds you lost, for that "free" cam to start COSTING you money.

Get the right cam.
