Disconnect the shifter cable at the trans end.
If the shifter moves freely then problem is inside the trans;
if it doesn't then the problem is with the shifter (or it's cable )
What is the question ?
Your engine is not original and has none of the stock front drive accessories from your year model
Also helps if you post pics the right way up

Re: help
Dry bout the upside down pic my question is he said the power steering belt is off so once I put it back on it'll be easier to turn Bob I'm assuming and is it possible the hurst shift needs to be broken in a little?

Re: help
ya. put it belt back on you'll be set. Not to tight or pump bearing will wear faster and belt will stretch out. Not to lose cause belt will slip. I like about a inch of play in my belt after tightening pump.
I don't know why you rambled off all those performance parts. Are you having problems with all that stuff too?
Do like vetteoz said to pinpoint shift problem

Re: help
try pulling up by hand your brake pedal to see if brake light goes off. There's a switch for brake light toward the top of the brake pedal mount. May just need readjusted. Or may need replaced.
Re: help
The point of the brake light isn't to try to get the light off,but more so to find out why you have a low brake peddle. To adjust the switch just to turn the light off with a low brake peddle is pretty scarey.

Re: help
Having the BRAKE light in the IP on means either the switch on the park brake is out of adjustment or there is a brake system ( fluid ) failure

That is the switch for the BRAKE LIGHTS.

Is the instrument panel brake light on or does the actual brake taillights stay on?

Re: help
a good suggestion might be to go to your local auto parts store and buy a common repair manual for your vehicle. it covers all the basics and usually has pictures and diagrams.

Re: help
All the nuts need to be loose on the power steering pump so you can move it left to right by hand. PB blaster(in a aerosol can found at parts store) works good on bolts to break them loose.
Next install the belt on the crankshaft pulley(The bottom one centered with the engine) then loop it around power steering pump.
Slide pump toward driver side of car till belt tightens around pullies. Tighten all pump nuts and bolts. Your going to want a little play in the belt after everything is tightened.

Re: help
All small blocks are basically the same from 1955 to 2003 in vehicles factory equipped with the gen 1 v8(what u have). Last I checked a GM subsidiary in Mexico still makes the engine as a crate engine for replacement and hot rodding purposes. Anyway a small block chevy performance manuel may also be needed to help you with engine specific problems you may incounter.

Re: help

Don't need a video , it is pure logic!
(something that seems to be lacking in the current generation of new owners , need a video on how to wipe their ar*e)
Gotta get the bolts loose 1st so the PS pump can be moved closer to the water pump in order to the belt on the 2 pulleys?
Once the belt is on, you pull the pump back out to achieve correct belt tension and tighten it in that location.
Not exactly rocket science is it ?
May not even be a 350 , could be a 283 or a 400, all you can tell is the heads are off a '86 or earlier.
'000 of books around on SBC engines but they mostly deal with the internals and rebuilding which I suspect is out of your league if you are struggling to work out how to put a belt on ?
The correct year factory manual will be a big help with the car ( wiring etc ) but as you appear to have few 3rd Gen parts on the engine won't help much there except for diagnostics

Re: help
heres a video for ya. you tube has a lot of vids like this if you need it, but a shop manual would really be useful. keep it in your car in case you break down.
this might help you in identifying your engine?

Re: help
Any paperwork or receipts ?
Given all SBC's from 283 - 400 look basically identical on the outside and many seller think they have a 350 in place of the stock 305
the casting # at the rear of the block will at least give a indication of what it might be,

Re: help
For you to go on Ebay and buy s factory service manual with the electrical supplement would be a very positive step. They are very cheap to get and have details that you will not find anywhere.Published for the dealership's tech by GM.

Sounds like there may or may not be a kill switch in your car. I would get out a multi meter and check that.
