hey, I have a 3.1 91' firebird that I got about 6 months ago with 350k miles on it. Ive been restoring it since then. it ran and drive well, except it would take a bit of turning over to start, it idled at about 1000rpm, and it would ocasionally die at stoplights. then, the other day, i put it into passing gear, and heard a loud thiunk coming from my engine bay. I quickly pulled over and made sure nothing had fallen out and it looked good, so I drove it home. on the way home, it was running REALLY rough. It would pulse really bad, and It would idle around 900 and then dip, and if i didnt give it gas It would die on me. It has a new battery, just cleaned the throttle body, not sure what else to do other than spark plugs! help!

the things that may affect it: has 10 splices in the wiring harness, but they are all done safely and correctly by a professiional. this is my daily driver so I really need to get this fixed...also the transmission is slipping and it WILL NOT go into passing gear.

 

Things to check

Oil level and color.

Compression.

Pull the valve covers and look for any damage.
