Never mind, it's a degreaser. Why not take it to an engine shop and have them put it in their hot tank? Shouldn't be that much of a service charge.

my local engine shop is currently moving shops and has emptied their hot tank and it won't be set back up till spring. He offered to clean it by hand for me but I figured a decent sized bucket to where I can lay my engine block down and fill it with purple power to soak my block and heads would work for now since purple power worked really well last time on soaking my heads and other engine parts during my other motor rebuild.Originally Posted by MY87LT

Just spray and scrub with degreasers for oil dirt and grime. Power wash if possible to really remove the stuff. For rust use muriatic acid from home improvement stores.
It wont hurt the block to much depending how much rust

Not really rusty. Just horribly greasy. Any tips on removing engine paint?

Not sure what you are trying to exactly here but I have to agree with 1Gary that hot tank is the best method for getting a block really clean.
With that said, using a degreaser on the cylinder walls can cause flash rust if they are not coated quickly with a light coating of light weight oil after cleaning them.
I've used Super Clean to clean a few motors externally and I used it to get all the road grime, oil and grease off the K-member and suspension parts on my T/A and that has worked out quite well. On rebuilds that needed internal cleaning I have always dunked them into a hot ultrasonic cleaning tank and ran brushes through the passages to flush them out.
