Hello all, Having issues with my ignition not shutting off the motor once turned to the off position and key pulled out. All accessories turn off it's just the motor won't shut off. Any idea where I should start to look?

Sounds like the steering column is loose, ign switch is bad or out of adjustment.

 

a truck i had also did this ... turned out the way the fans were wired in kept power to the coil ... had to unplug the fans to get it to shut off ... lol

not saying it is the fan, but could be power to the coil from the wrong place that is hot all the time ... not sure if you run a carb or its injected though, dont think it could do that if it is injected

 

It's a carbed 350 I have electric fans on a switch gonna check those as well as the column. As it's annoying and embarrassing getting to places and having to unplug the battery lol.

 

put the hot wire to the dist. on a switch ... dont hack the wire though, just make a pigtail and run it to a switch inside the car ... if you cant find the problem right away

 

depending on what alternator you are using and how it is connected,it could be backfeeding the turn on wire-a diode or small light bulb can be added to stop the backfeed if that is the cause of the run-on problem.

 

it could be dieseling, leaky jets still giving the motor fuel and the compression/heat igniting the fuel without spark.

unlikely but something to think about, people have had this problem on here before

my head is spinning just reading and thinking about all these post. Plan on diving into it later this afternoon when I get home got a long check list to go through.

 

Pulled the bottom of the dash and found a few crimped wires from the ignition switch, everything is working properly now gonna clean everything up tomorrow will let you know if anything changes.

 

I was wrong same issue today, going to be spending some time finding this gremlin. Will keep you posted.

start the car, let it run till you think the battery is charged from the start, then turn off the car, and while it is still running, unplug the alternator connector. if the engine shuts off, M.A.D. enterprises has a fix it kit for it.
look them up on line
