'84 Firebird Fuel Pump Leak
'84 Firebird Fuel Pump Leak
I have been noticing a fuel smell coming through my vents in my car. After looking around a bit, it turned out to be squirting out of the diaphragm of the fuel pump. I took the old one off and put a new one on. It was quite difficult to do that, but I digress.
After hooking all of the lines back up and cranking it up, the metal line is leaking around the screw threads. My repair manual said to put gasket sealant on the screw threads, so I tried that, but it didn't help. Any suggestions?

those flare fittings can be a real bother-could loosen the fitting, reposition the line as straight as possible in line with the nut and tighten-if still leaks, try another position.

I have redone it multiple times. It is about as straight as it can be. Should I try screwing it in with a tilt?
Re: '84 Firebird Fuel Pump Leak
I decided to take off the fuel line and pump to inspect their condition. Upon removing the fuel pump, one side of the mount broke off. I took it and the line into O'reily's and was told that the line was fine and that it must be the fuel pump. They refunded my money and told me they could have another one by noon tomorrow. I went to Advanced Auto Parts and was told they could have one tomorrow when they open, so I plan to go with them this time.
A second question, the pump came with two gaskets. Both are supposed to be put on the spring, correct?
