Car wont start

Very happy yesterday because after nearly 5 years rebuilding my car, it was back on the road. Ive had it running since last year, done about 20 miles today.

So.....went to start for about the 10th time today, nothing whatsoever. Didnt even try? It can be a little hesitant when hot.

Heres what Ive got

406ci Procharged motor, Holley 700cfm blowthrough carb,

Ive checked the MSD ignition, all ok. Distributor visually appears ok.

Fuel pressure set at 7psi on a Aeromotive boost referenced regulator.
Car smelled heavily of gas after repeated cranking.

Im guessing at something along the lines of the fact that the vibration from being back on the road has dislodged some dirt or sealer in the fuel system???

Please any help or ideas would be great

Re: Car wont start

are you getting fire to the plugs, is the coil getting power, is the fuel coming out of the squirters when acceleration is applied?

Re: Car wont start

Ive left it for tonight, going back tomorrow, I find a rest helps think better. You can do a test with an MSD to check coil output, thats all ok. Not checked the carb yet. The puzzling thing is, ive had that engine running stationary for hours many times, only now when the car is back on the road this happens?

Re: Car wont start

is the engine even turning over when you turn the key? if not check wires at starter, do you have heat shield around starter? Excessive heat can destroy a starter, I have a 355 with a 6-71 blower it builds enough heat, I went through 3 starters before I realized what was up, installed a heat blanket around the starter and no more issues with the starter.

Spray some carb cleaner through the carb and see if it wants to start after that, If it does you may want to check the fuel system/air filter/clogged carburetor, if not then you should check for spark to your plugs if you can.

Re: Car wont start

Car does fire up eventually, The ignition is all new and works fine, carb is squirting gas, fuel pressure now set at 7psi, was down at 4?? Although gauge isn't great, going to get a new one. I can only think of maybe vapour lock, I will get a spacer

You stated up top "smelled heavily of gas after repeated cranking" so it doesn't appear to be a fuel supply problem ; rather a Ign problem

When it won't fire up, I would be pulling plugs out.
Dry plug ; no fuel
Wet plug ; no spark

FWIW ;
if the squirters are working as you say then they should supply enough gas it get it to fire up and purge any vapour out of the line to the tank
If vapour in the line is proven to be the problem a elec pump at the tank will fix that
