Head Gasket 89 Iroc

Hi Names Mike
I Purchased an 89 Iroc Ttop
with a Swapped out 305 TPI Injection motor
Clean body all in all
Overheating Issues started with the thermostat i replaced the intake connected to the Thermostat because the bolt was broken that connected to the thermostat also replace the HCV( heater Control Valve) because it leaked
-----
It ran correctly about 2 weeks a mechanic told me i needed to replace my exaust gasket soon . On the road outside of town it started to overheat i pulled over let it cool down . Drove it to NAPA to see what they thought i was told it has a BlOWN HEAD GASKET after 15 mins of inspection and to take it home and park it . Tried to get it back into the city and it got hot as hades
pulled over saw a small fire under the engine and put it out.
It was towed to the NAPA on my side of town for a Diagnosis . Napa said
IGNition Coil , Wiring Labor Total 700 dollars parts 50$
This still wont help the engine overheating issue
Im preparing to open the engine
This will be my first head gasket job
Could it possibly be something else???
it overheated to the pointwhere im sure there has been engine damage
------
Car cuts on Shakes and is very loud

Im a college student in Atlanta
with intermediate mechanical experience
My First IROC
ill post a photo soon

- Thanks

Re: Head Gasket 89 Iroc

Overheating can cause a blown head gasket. Are you losing coolant without seeing any leaks or coolant under the car? If so, then the head gasket is leaking coolant into the cylinder and it gets burned off.
A leaking exhaust gasket will cause the car to be loud and I have never seen it but it could cause a fire if bad enough.
A head gasket job will require a good torque wrench and good instructions. It's not an easy job, take your time to get it right.

Re: Head Gasket 89 Iroc

Ok thankyou i received a Haynes Manual in the mail today .
I will be draining the Oil , and Cleaning out the oil Pan this week while doing a little studying so i can start the job . Whats the Best Torque Wrench i should get ?
What Should i look to swap out while doing a job like this to enhance my engine other than the Gaskets? Oil is milky but its only water in it not Antifreeze .
