Re: cam upgrade

Depends on how much bigger of a cam your talking about. Valve springs are a necessary upgrade you will have to do if you put a cam in with around .440, .450 lift. Since you will be removing all the accessories anyway, a cam is a worthwhile upgrade. Changing the valve springs is also a good time to replace valve seals which usually cause smokey startups if their original. A lot of people like to run an lt1 cam as a cheap upgrade in roller 305s and 350s.

Re: cam upgrade

thanks.. i dont want to do anthing extreme just a little extra something while im digging around in there. my seals need replaced anyway i know. what would be the biggest cam i could go without having to replace alot of extras or throwing off the computer. id like to get just what i can get away with without rebuilding the engine or really hurting my gas milage..

Re: cam upgrade

Comp cams makes a 249h that is claimed to be computer friendly. It is mild but would be a decent upgrade over your stock cam. You would get away with not changing valve springs. A few other cams I would recommend would be an l98 or g92 cam. Obviously a tune would help increase performance but i do not think its necessary to make the car run decent. Whatever cam you choose it has to be 112 degrees lobe separation or higher to work with the computer.

Re: cam upgrade

than you for the intel. i will check out the cams you mentioned. the more ive sat here and thought about it im considering having the heads reworked while im at it. i know my valve seals leak and cant justify going through the trouble of replacing them without reworking the heads. im curious, do you know if i can get that cam out and new one in without pulling engine? just remove the radiator etc? even the nose if nessecary..
