1962 327 motor shakes at idle
trying to figure out why my 327 i just put into my camaro shakes at idle doesn't back fire or anything wondering if my timing is off i did put new plug wires on it after install i used my 350 flex plate which had no weights on it same tranny and torque converter as my 350 had harmonic balancer was used from the 350 also and double roller timing chain i did notice my distributor isnt in the same location like i had on my 350 my vacuum advanced canister is going more towards the front of the passenger side of the motor when i put the distributor on my 350 and set my timing it was more closer to my driver side valve cover also it wouldn't even start till i turned the distributor that far also cant seem to figure out my kick down location for shifting i pull it all the way back and smashed the peddle down to adjust it and it still isn't right any help would be appreciated

Here's my interpretation:
"I'm trying to figure out why my 327 i just put into my camaro shakes at idle It doesn't back fire or anything. I'm wondering if my timing is off. I did put new plug wires on it after install. I used my 350 flex plate which had no weights on it, same tranny, and torque converter as my 350 had. The harmonic balancer was used from the 350 also, and double roller timing chain.
I did notice my distributor isn't in the same location like I had on my 350. My vacuum advanced canister is going more towards the front of the passenger side of the motor. When I put the distributor on my 350 and set my timing, it was more closer to my driver side valve cover. Also, it wouldn't even start till i turned the distributor that far.
I also cant seem to figure out my kick down location for shifting. I pull it all the way back and smashed the peddle down to adjust it and it still isn't right. Any help would be appreciated. "
The Gen I type, neutral balanced flexplate and harmonic balancer should be correct for a 1962 327. The timing chain is not an issue for balance but may have a bearing upon operation if the cam timing is not correct. Were the timing marks on the sprockets aligned when it was installed? Was lobe timing checked with a degree wheel? The one potential problem of mixing balancers is that the timing marks may not be in the same locations, and timing by light would be affected.
The distributor physical orientation is not that relevant. So long as the plug wires are connected in the proper firing order and the rotor is adjacent to the correct distributor cap terminal when the coil fires, the orientation of the distributor is of little consequence except for clearance around it. If the distributor has to be moved drastically to allow the engine to start, initial timing should be checked and set before proceeding. What type ignition system is installed? HEI? Points? Aftermarket?
For the kickdown adjustment, what transmission is installed? If it has the ST300 or TH350, it MAY have an electrical kickdown solenoid. It may have a mechanical linkage as well. If the transmission is an unmodified TH700-R4, the adjustment is NOT for kickdown but for line pressure modulation, and the proper setting of the TV valve, sleeve, and cable have a different procedure. Get it running properly first, then research the correct transmission adjustment method.

Re: 1962 327 motor shakes at idle
ok i got a closer look at my distributor cap and noticed there is some cracks in it so im gonna get a new cap its a hei i do still have the stock 327 balancer do u think i should take the 350 balancer off and put the 327 back on plus i noticed the 327 balancer is thinner then the 350 balancer so that would probably mess up my pulley alignment? i also got looking at the other motor that was in my car before the 327 i'm not sure now what it is it has a large journal 327 crank in it but the block casting number says 3970044 crank number is 3911001A also noticed it had been ground .30 on mains and .20 on rod bearings and all the bearings are bad and has some grooves in the main bearings so im thinking that crank is toast? and yes i always align dot to dot before i put my sprocket and chain on and the block that was in my car before the 327 has been bored .60 over
