could this be a rebuilt engine?
Just wondering if gm ever used white sealant on their head bolts? This motor I got is supposed to be high mileage but there is barely a ridge in the cylinders and the cross hatch is still very visible.

Was it efi? They do not tend to taper bad like carbed engines due to.a better warm up cycle. Seems like 305s dont do it near as bad as 350s either based on what i have seen, but that is ancedotal.

I've seen the white sealant on new GM replacement head bolts.
My 248k mile L31 engine from my pickup still has visible crosshatch and no ring ridge. As Drac0 said, EFI controls the fuel much better and doesn't wash the cylinders walls during warmup.
