headlight motor bushings - need your ideas!

i am rebuilding myheadlight motor. the 3 plastic bushings are destroyed, i've heard people use rubber hose to act as a replacement...any idea how that will work? i thought of filling it with epoxy to strengthen it.

hawks third gen offers a rebuild kit but its $26, but I don't feel like giving it to them. i feel like there is something that you can use for free around the house but i just cant think of it...any ideas??

I replaced mine back in '08 for the low price $00.99 . I bought my bushings from ebay, I don't remember the sellers name. you could go to ace and try to find the same size aluminum spacers and cover them in white lithium grease.

I just used three ball bearings from the local hardware store. Cost me a total of $0.75! That was back in '00 or '01 and it still works like a champ.

If you don't want to use the proper bushings, at least use something soft. If you put in something solid, there is a possibility that you will break other parts if something goes wrong. Personally, I would prefer the bushings to be the sacrificial piece.

I used old scrap fuel line for the free fix.

Re: headlight motor bushings - need your ideas!

I bought a few inches of 1/2 inch delrin dowel and cut the required pieces. Cost a buck and will make quite a few bushes.

Re: headlight motor bushings - need your ideas!

UHMW turned and bored to size might be ideal, not unlike the Delrin bushings Base91 did.
