Old problem starting now back after initially fixed I thought
Ok
I am back to square one on the bird. So I replaced the following so far:
ICM
Full tune up and wires
Rotor and Cap
Coolant sensor
new fuel pump and filter (last year or so)
NEW Die Hard battery,( 2 weeks old at most)
Now, before the ICM and coolant sensor (newest items installed) an issue where I could start car, run it, then shut if off but have to wait 1/2 hour to start it up. Otherwise it would just turn over.
Now the same problem is back but with a little more.
1. Starting the car is hit or miss, on miss, it turns over until the battery cannot gen enough juice to run the starter. (the fuel pump is priming the system, I can hear it)
2. So I put a charger on it, and the same thing it just turns over, wont start.
3. Let it sit for an hour or so MAYBE she will start.
4. Whats new is now the battery dies really quickly and I know there is some sort of drain on it when its sits.
1. I am planning on changing the fuel injectors anyway with Southbays but that has to wait a bit, money...
2. The alternater is original and seems to be working fine, but I am thinking its time, maybe even the starter too. (not original, but old enough, long story for another time)
So now I am wondering what is kiling the new battery so quickly. If I let it sit for over 2 days i have to charge it.
This SO fustrating because when I replaced the ICM and coolant sensor she would start right up after a nice drive. Could the new ICM be bad? I dont know where to go from here.
Also, stupid question, how can I confirm there is a draw (short) in the system that could be causing the batter to drain faster than normal.
Thanks

Well I got it running again. I am now thinking its the fuel injectors. They are original. But Just wondering about the power drain on the battery, any thoughts? Thanks.

Get an ammeter and connect it between your battery and power system.
Measure the draw with the car/key off. Trying to start the car with the ammeter connected is probably a bad idea

Tried starting it tonight just turns over. I am really thinking it's the injectors. As soon as I can I will replace them.

OK with the amp meter what side of the battery do I attach to? And what power system would you suggest please?

As far as testing parasitic battery drain:
Granted I'm a new guy still learning about cars.
I'm pretty well versed in computers and electricity though.

Pick up a Haynes manual at the auto parts store for your car and follow the procedures in the troubleshooting section

Re: Old problem starting now back after initially fixed I thought
Well had to work on the JEEP today. So I am hoping tomorrow to check for any drain. Something is killing my battery, hard to troubleshoot the starting issue with the Battery dropping off.
As for the fuel injector test. How do I get them out off the motor, I have an idea but would like suggestions. More so, how do I get the electrical connector off of them? Thanks.

One more thing question... How can I tell if fuel is even reaching the rails/injectors? I know the pump primes, I can hear it. I just put fuel in the tank, Mobil super of course. So now I am wondering if there the issue is with fuel delivery?
This is driving me crazy!!!

Re: Old problem starting now back after initially fixed I thought
sorry to keep posting but I believe I solved the staring issue. I was changing the o-rings on the A/C system and removed the air filter housing. I put it back bud did not lock it down, or seal it, with the 3 wire clips. What a PAIN to get them locked! Anyway I took the housing out and locked it down and put it back in with out the hold down bolt. Now the car starts right up.
I also found where to test if fuel is on the rail. The gray bleeder valve on the right side of the engine toward the back. Right over the intake manifold.
Now on to the battery draining issue.....

Ok, so I tried the drain test. I guess my multimeter is not up to snuff. I ts a DT830, not special. When i tried to test 10 amps, I just get all 0s. I attachec the instructions for this multimeter. If any of you electrical guys could let me know if this will work or not? Thanks.

Re: Old problem starting now back after initially fixed I thought
I have decided an aftermarket air intake setup to resolve this issue. Car runs fine otherwise so the fuel injectors are ok for now. But as soon as I can I am going with Southbays.
