spark problems

Well hows it goin, I recently replaced my icm of 4 years a couple days ago. I replaced it yesterday, and after driving 1 hour, i decided i floor it, after letting off the car shut off, was doing about fourty. While rolling i tried to put it in fourth gear and still wouldn't start, so i had my wife get our truck. While i was waiting I opened the hood and it smelled like smoke, so i figured the icm went out again, well today i got another one this time bdw brand, put it in even got my coil tested using a multimeter (read 8.1). well its still not giving any spark. I have all the wires plugged in right. How i checked to see if i still had no spark was taking an extra plug wire and connecting it to the coil and getting a spark plug and had my wife try and start the car, there was no spark, tried looking in my haynes manual and nothing stood out as to what it could be.. i know its the original dizzy with 200k miles on it so would it be time to replace/rebuild it??

Re: spark problems

Can you test the resistance of the pickup coil? Is the reluctor encrusted with corrosion? Is the connector at the HEI switching module intact?

thanks for the reply, its been raining all weekend but i know my points in the cap have corrosion, im going to clean that up before figuring out i need to replace it. I do plan or cleaning all my connections back there. lets say this doesnt help out, what would be the next action to take??
edit: I have cleaned my connections, made sure plugs were plugged in, replaced icm, returned new coil cause old coil work two nights ago and got used a multimeter (read 8.1 ohms), removed #1 spark plug still looks good, wires aren't messed up.

Re: spark problems

well tested everything again besides my pickup coil, I read how to test it and it should read .3 or .8 volts a/c to 1.8 volts a/c. if it reads anything else then its the coil..
