88 GTA, VAT?????
88 GTA, VAT?????
Need some help..... First the particulars... 88 Trans Am GTA, 5.0 TPI, M5 trans. The problem I am having is that when I turn the key to the start position I get nothing. I have power coming out of the ignition switch, but no power to the Clutch switch on its way to the starter solenoid.
After reading a lot of posts I have determined that I most likely have an issue with the VAT system. That being said, I have noticed that the "security" light on the dash does not illuminate at any point. Additionally the posts I have read all say that the VAT relay is located behind the driver's kick panel. I have removed the kick panel but the only relay there is for the power windows....??
Any help you could provide would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!

You can jump the relay like this =
Heavy gage wire with spade connectors from each outside heavy wire.
I used a zip tie around it from top to bottom and then taped it to make sure the jumper stayed in.
It is a very common way to eliminate VATS control over the starter, and is mandatory when removing VATS from the EPROM/ECM.
This is not my car but is the only photo I could find online.

So are you going to use the resistor technique using your key pellet as a guide ?
Worked for me for a while.
I eventually had to have VATS eliminated.

Replaced the relay but had the same problem, so I did the resistor technique and all is well now. Going to get the PROM done and replaced soon....
