Is there anyway to disconnect the 9th injector on a 87 350 TPI? What is it really for? I see that there is a small fuel line from the main fuel rail and a electrical plug. After car is started it has a odor of gas. I think that it is dumping too much fuel into the engine when it starts. I live in Wisconsin where it has been pretty warm. Any advise would be great. The 9th injector is also called a cold start injector (CSI). There is a temp sensor in the front of the intake manifold. Below certain coolant temp, the CSI will fire. You can remove it, using any number of kits found on EBay or other sources.

You will need to (have the chip) reprogrammed for the main injectors to provide additional cold start fuel, or the engine will be temperamental when cold.

If you want to test this (for free!), simply remove the injector style wiring connector off the CSI. Start when cold, and see if that solves your problem.
