383 fouls plugs

fresh 383 maybe 10 miles on it keeps fouling plugs , I know the carb needs to be tuned better any other things that would cause this

Re: 383 fouls plugs

Too cold a plug? It sounds like a tune issue if it hasnt been tuned yet. If plug is black and smells of fuel or even wet with fuel its likely too rich which will kill a plug quick

I was told I had some of the hotest plugs, but I can tell by my eyes burning it runs way to rich

Re: 383 fouls plugs

adjust your mixture screws all the way in towards the carb and back them out 2 1/2 turns out and start with that
1. what size carb do you have
2. what kind of carb are you running
3. what kind of ingition are you running stock HEI wit stock coil, if so for starters get a better coil hei's are fine but anything bigger than a 350 needs abigger coil for a better burn with more fuel

Usually it burns my eyes when its running lean, not rich... maybe your rings need to seat in yet and are burning some oil?

Holley carb? could be a blown power valve.

You might let all the good folk know your set up...i/e cam, CR , carb and jet sizes, and so on

Real rich is bad on a fresh engine, suggest you look into a properly sized carb and jets...many put on a big carb and wonder "why does it not run faster?"

Aside from that, let us know what rings you used, i/e CrMoly rings take some time to seat...could be oil fouled...could be other things but "carb'ed 383 fouls plugs"...isn't a lot to go by
