Haynes or Chilton, which do you prefer?

Can't find my old repair manual so I'm looking into purchasing another. I had the Haynes before, but was thinking of trying the Chilton. I googled and saw that the Chilton manual isn't as simplified yet covers more things than the Haynes. Which manual do you guys use?

Neither. Ebay one of the official GM manuals.

Yep. Sometimes they're on sale here too.

This is very close to what you need, and will cover most of your needs:

neither, as has been proven. the info they contain is of a basic overview format.and in some instances down right wrong. thusly, there is NO replacement for a "factory service manual"

To answer the question I think Chilton is better. I've got both so can compare.

Factory service manual. The rest are junk or for 1st graders to use on their powerwheels.

Re: Haynes or Chilton, which do you prefer?

Took you guys advice and searched eBay for an original factory service manual. A few of them are about the same price as the Chilton and Haynes manuals so I must grab one of those original service manuals ASAP! Wish I could also get that downloadable manual mentioned above but it kept giving me an "error, file not found".

nothing beats the factory manual . I use both factory and Haynes . there are times when the Haynes may show a way around needing a special factory tool & short cuts . any are better than starting a major job blind . other than very simple jobs . research all major tasks , good luck ...........

Re: Haynes or Chilton, which do you prefer?

Haynes and Chilton are good for people who don't really work on their cars and just want VERY basic knowledge of how a vehicle operates and how to take care of it on a basic user level. The other manuals from GM will tell you everything on a step by step basis so that if you need to fix something you can regardless of what it might be. Haynes and Chilton borrow all the good information from the GM manuals anyways so there's really not a reason to not to have one.
