Oil&Temp indicators

Hi

This is a trivial topic. I have those parameters in my GTA in normal-running conditions. Are they correct? What is the oil indicating, pressure?

THANKS!!

Re: Oil&Temp indicators

Yes, the oil gauge indicates oil pressure in PSI (pounds per square inch). Temp gauge is in degrees F. If the engine was warmed up and just sitting there while idling, I'd say these indications look normal. Oil pressure will (should) increase when RPM's increase. Temp may increase while sitting at a prolonged idle, too.

Ideal operating temp is around 195 -200 degrees F. However, an analog gauge is not an absolute indication.

Re: Oil&Temp indicators

That's a near perfect set for our cars. Oil Pressure may drop as it gets hotter obviously so that will be nothing to worry

Re: Oil&Temp indicators

Thanks guys!!

That pictures was with warmed up engine and idle. If I accelerate hard, pressure goes to 40psi, maybe less more. Should be reach 60?

thanks

Re: Oil&Temp indicators

Oil pressure will probably never reach 60 psi. Usually, it'll get up to 40-45 psi ... maybe 50. What you're seeing is normal.

Also, after the engine warms up, the oil thins out somewhat from a cold state. You will probably see higher oil pressure when it's cold as opposed to being warm.

Normal operating temperature with engine idling should be around 200 °F.It always depends on the temperature outside your car!
Your 89 GTA got the dual fan setup: primary and auxiliary fans.
Primary fan kicks on at 223 °F and off at 220 °F.
Stock thermostat opening temperature is 195.
Oil pressure seems to be a little low (about 21 PSI).Should be around 30 .BUT ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT!!!!!
