New Cardone distributor: Car wont start
Hello again guys
I am going to install a brand new distributor in my 305 TPI and time the engine
but, it wont start! I tried every top dead center, everything, but it wont
The first time I installed it the car fired up for 5-6 seconds then died
I pointed the distributor to the 1st cylinder, alligned the cap, and engine at top dead: nothing. Tried with the distributor at 180 (in the case I was on exhaust stroke): nothing. It seems there are not sparks in the chambers.
Coil seems good, injectors too, the ignition module is brand new (from cardone), spark plug wires are new (accel), ECM is new with hypertech chip.
Just in case I have the old ignition module from GM that worked like a champ
Please help me

Did you make sure to mark the rotor position of the old one when you pulled it out?
You are positive you have the plug wires on the right plugs? It's easy to get those messed up, done it myself.

Yes I checked wiring order many times! Unfortunately I cranked the engine over without the distributor so I have to time it again!
When I put the engine at top dead center on the compression stroke, will the engine start with this minimum advance?

Yes, it "Should".
Provided everythign else is ready to fire over.
Just for grins, next time you fire over, put your old ECM back in (if it works), you might have received a bad ECM.
Make sure the flat four-wire is disconnected, with zero advanced, it should start. You'll want to get it to 6* BTDC as soon as possible though, that's close to where it should be factory.
