Need an expert's opinion for purchase('88 iroc)
Sorry, new to this forum and not sure where to post this.
Ive been looking out for a camaro for a while now and I think I've finally found the perfect one. But I'm not certain if it's really as good as it seems.

So can any expert give me their opinion on what kind of a deal this is? Does anyone think this is a legit seller/car? Maybe fake iroc?

I am no "expert" but I've bought 4 thirdgens. Lemme tell you this. The price is only fair if that's what you're willing to pay. The 305 tpi paired to the 5speed and ttops is pretty rare. So that's a plus. It has body damage from what I can tell, and it has rust. And obviously needs a lot of TLC. For me? $2800 is way too much. I just paid $3500 for a MINT formula and I live in Wisconsin. If this is your first fbody and you actually want a fun drive able car, then pass this one and wait for a nice driver. I see at least $3k on the low side of work that it needs to be presentable. And who knows what the tranny and motor are like. This car looks like it's been beat to hell and back.

not a bad car, possible damage to right rear/bumper cover. it's worth taking a look at I would take a good look at the floors and underneath for rust.

Thanks for the advice, I'll look it over twice more and make a decision; I may wait until spring to look for third gens as people will generally store them in winter.

I have owned a few of these and I think he might be a little on the high side too. There are a few odd things on this car though. It looks like an IROC yet it doesn't have the options you would associate with a higher end camaro, ie: power locks and windows. That's not to say it isn't an actual IROC since I have seen them without any options like a/c, power windows etc. Look to see if the RPO sticker is in the center console lid and take a pic of it so that you can see what options it came with.

It is a little on the high side in price, try to take a good look under it if possible. Right side fender has a large panel gap between the fender and the door which may suggest something, might be nothing at all. the engine looks pretty clean from the picture though, could be a nice buy if all checks out and you can haggle him down a bit. good luck with your search

Re: Need an expert's opinion for purchase('88 iroc)
Save and look. I have had 3 3rd gens and have paid $1,000 total for all 3, all ran. One was mint and the person thought something was wrong with it and there was nothing wrong. It was a 305 T-top, the 2nd was a V6 5 speed T-Top that had a bad freeze plug in the back of the block and my current one because again some one thought there was something major wrong with the car and all it was, was a bad alternator and the girl was mad at her now ex boyfriend. So save, be patient and shop wisely. The better shape the car is in the better off you are. A motor is easy to replace but a good body and interior is most important. Its cheep to replace the motor for another used on but paint, body work and interior trim can be expansive.
