Passed California Smog
It was that time again for me to have my Camaro smog checked. The tech at first refused to even bother with my car since it has headers installed on it. I showed him the C.A.R.B. certification from SLP under the hood and then he looked it up. He then said that was a certification for headers from a Ford truck. I said that was ridiculous and then looked it up myself and called over the owner of the shop who knew me. He said that I in fact had the correct headers and they are legal. Attached are my test results and yes, I passed.

Re: Passed California Smog
Nice numbers. Good deal and congrat's on passing.
I lived in the High Desert for 24 years and never had a problem with passing smog. Just a pain every two years.
If you go East on I-40 at the California/Arizona border, behind that really big Joshua Tree and big rock by that old fallen tree stump.......you'll find a large crate with all my SMOG components in it that I left while leaving the state! You're welcome to it.

Re: Passed California Smog
LOL. Well I have to get my car checked every year only because I didn't pass a couple of times for either a bad cat or I was running rich. Two simple things that I have since repaired and I get treated like a criminal.

Good job!
When I lived out there (Carlsbad), I went through the same thing, with of all things, Edelbrock TES. I ended up having to download the catalog, which had the EO #s, to get them to OK it.
It's a great feeling to successfully overcome a bar that's set that high, I think.

Re: Passed California Smog
I've yet to be questioned about my 49-state SLP headers. However, my NOx numbers are now borderline fail at 15mph.
CA makes it really hard for older cars to pass. In some cases (like my '92 Lumina) CARB has lowered the pass-fail limit.

Some of the 49-state SLP headers (the ones I have now for example) do have the AIR tubes.
No idea why they're 49-state instead of 50-state. Other than, regulatory paperwork, fees, money, payoffs, bribes, CA bureaucracy, permits, lawyers, maybe a few other details here or there.

Re: Passed California Smog
I've never heard of that. I had a sequence where I failed, registered it non-op, and then failed again. Yet I still come due every other year. Luckily, I passed with a good margin today! Is it wrong that I sweat smog check more than doctor's appointments?
That's weird. My Edelbrock TES headers have the name tag tack welded on the passenger's header along with the E.O.#. Good thing because I had forgot to bring my E.O. stickers along with me today.

Re: Passed California Smog
My SLP headers are the old tri-y stainless ones they sold back in the late 80's. They have AIR tubes.
The only difference between the 49-state and the CARB certified ones was the header wrap on the CARB approved models. An extra $200 for header wrap seemed silly at the time. Besides, I lived in San Benito County when I installed them (exempt - no emissions testing).
I don't think I get questioned because all my smog equipment is present; I pass visuals so they don't seem to ask embarrassing questions.
Rule of thumb: If you don't look like a problem, you're probably not.

But the ceramic coating on them (the "high temp" kind, which wasn't what I ordered, ended up being that real thick rough stuff about like sandpaper instead of the thin smooth shiny kind) filled in the stamping to where it was totally illegible.

Re: Passed California Smog
I got my SLP tri-y headers with the air tube back in 1996 new. I opted for the ceramic coating. And of course, no tag welded to my headers. Never was one. That's why I had to put the extra decal on the underside of the hood. But yea, I have to go to a Star certified station yearly now. Sucks.

Re: Passed California Smog
That sucks they covered it up. Mine were coated by Jet Hot and you can still see the E.O. numbers.
