Chain rattling noise continued

Hey guys,

Thought I had solved my issue. What happens in when I'm driving I have the windows down because naturally I don't have ac. When I'm driving I hear a loud chain rattling noise that comes and goes. I hear it most when I'm near buildings where the sound can bounce off.

Haven't been able to pin point if its front or rear, however the exact sound rears its ugly head if I close the hatch hard (pull down motor died).
Any ideas on this? I'm getting under it today to check heat shields. Also I believe the cat has been gutted by prev owner as well.

Just replaced these 1000 or so miles ago. Maybe they're faulty?

Does it sound like shaking rocks in a tin can? Are you under load or going up hill when it does it?

If so it could be detonation (spark knock)

I don't think it is just because I can replicate the sound by pressing on the car

Re: Chain rattling noise continued

Pretty simple, crawl under the car, have someone bounce the rear end and follow the sound. End link and shock washers will sound like chains rattling as Sofa said.

Swaybar parts loose or broken. Or maybe the spare tire parts rattling around?

Re: Chain rattling noise continued

Here's an update,

Checked the end links, and all were tight and looked almost new. I believe the entire suspension was replaced about 15k ago.

I can nearly pin point the sound to the rear always. Never when I close doors just the hatch. And cruising around sounds like I'm dragging chains only sometimes.

I got under it and had a friend close the hatch and it didn't make the noise of course. Tightened all the heat shields and banged the exhaust around to no avail. I will see what difference tightening those shields up did when I get off duty.

Re: Chain rattling noise continued

Forgetful me forgot about the topic today. I always find interesting threads to read

Anyway I have banged around. No noise. When driving I still here it. However it is different now it seems

For one, the second time I lost a center cap, I glued those ****ers on. Pretty sure they are the rattle.

I have isolated it to the read end however. When going over speed bumps, the front is silent, the back sounds like the center caps or loose. That kid of plastic rattle nois . And after I speed up you hear the chain noise. Possible rear end issue?

Those all look in tact. Which is making me a little worried about what it could be. I'm going to dig around some more while it is still nice out

Re: Chain rattling noise continued

Do you have the WS6 Rear Disk Brakes? If so check your Rear Calipers. They could be frozen and just hanging on for the ride,I had that problem and they rattled like crazy.Didn't sound like a chain though.

Yeah I do, I'll look at that because my bird doesn't like to stop.. At all lol.

Last night I found a almost broken muffler hanger that I'm going to replace today. Frustrating issue trying to find the cause.

Another thing to check is the top of the rear shocks.

Pop the rear seat out and peel th ecarpet back.
