305 to a 350
Okay after reading over and over again about why would you dump money into a 305 when you could have a 350 for the same money (no replacement for displacement) I found a 350 on eBay out if a 89 Camaro Iroc z28 tpi car.... perfect right? Direct replacement for my 305 car and won't have to do much to get it put in and running! Now the help side, many of you have done this and my questions are what has to be done to drop this in and get it fired up? The guy said he took the tpi off and put a high rise intake and carb on it so I can take that off and put my tpi back on and replace the injectors or do I really have to replace my injectors as I just rebuilt them myself in preparation of my 305 rebuild? ECM what has to be done with that? Tranny will the original torque converter still work? Rear ends are they gonna be ok with the 350? Any help on this from you guys/gals would be much appreciated! I was gonna keep the original engine cause it was all matching #'s but again why dump the money into it when it doesn't change what the cars worth anyways! Thanks for your time and help in advanced!

If the 350 long block is still in it's stock form underneath the carb then yes it'll bolt right back to where your 305 is/was with ease. The injectors you have are 19lb, the 350 will need 22lb so yes injectors need to be changed. The ECM will need a chip/PROM for a 350 to replace the 305 PROM you have now. Check with Tuned Performance on these boards or check on the classifieds. Your trans and axle will live. No need to change. Other than that you'll need a knock sensor for a 89 350 car. Word to the wise, be careful when buying a used engine from random people without being able to hear it run, a lot of junk gets sold to buyers new to the experience.

Re: 305 to a 350
Many thanks for the help and the word of advice! The old man told me the engine was taken from the car cause his brother wanted to turn the car into a drag car but wanted to keep the tpi hence the high rise swap. After talking to the gent for about an hour on the phone he told me the engine has right at 50,000 miles on it, doesn't burn oil and had no leaks from any gaskets, no knock noise the engine is stock other than the intake he put on it. The guy was gonna put it in a s10 pickup but broke his back and that's been hindering him for a year or so so he's decided to close his shop and sell everything he didn't absolutely need, I hope he's not jerking my chain and at the same time I've gotta figure out how to get it shipped from Pennsylvania to Wyoming and not break the bank doing it. Again thanks for the information and I will look for a new chip while I figure out how to get this engine 1800 miles!

Whoaaaa. An unseen 26 year old motor......... I hope you're getting it for free, because I wouldn't bet on it being worth any more than the shipping cost. Be patient and find one more local to you. I'd have more confidence buying an engine from an auto recycler that at least gives you some sort of warranty.

Cars originally tpi or multiport injected v6 have the higher pressure fuel pump. Tbi had the lower pressure pump. 305 tpi and 350 tpi cars had the same pump.
