Any info will help

Hey everyone I have a 91 camaro v8 I want to build up (400hp+) hopefully but I don't want to just throw random stuff on it. I'm looking for a good blueprint to do it. By blueprint I mean head/cam combo Pistons/rods ect.. What brand to go with and which ones to stay away from I will be stripping it to just a block soon. Any info would help thanks.

Call or look at high performance strip engine building sites. They normally tell you what goes into the engines.

Knowing your budget, and usage of car, and what you are starting with would help alot.

I can recommend $2,200 heads, $800 crank, $600 rods, $800 pistons, $400 rocker arms, but if you only have a $3,000 engine budget non of that will help you at all.

Do you want fuel injection? If so TBI or TPI? Do you want a carb?

Give me a little more info to work with and I can give you a great cheapest price build list.

Z28... There is some high dollar heads out there. I'm with you though $1000-1500 seems like a butt load, but here is a few other high dollar ones

Brodix Track 1 $2800
Brodix 11STD $2600
Brodix IK210 wild thing cnc $2300
AFR Eliminator comp cnc $2200

I bought my Brodix IK 200 heads bare for $600 and bought parts and put them together myself and ended up with like $900 in them

Ok, the throttle body and computer limits what you can do unless you want to go with an aftermarket system or full custom tune.

Will the engine see nitrous, turbo, or supercharger?

Is this for street use only? if so will it be a daily driver or fair weather/weekend only car?
Or street/strip, track use only, what type of track and racing.

All of this applies and need to know info to send you down the right path.

You said you have an engine now and will be stripping it down to bare block soon... What engine do you have? If it's a 305 (5.0L) don't even bother with it. For 400+ HP you want to start with a 350 or 400 block

I have a 350 it's going to mainly by drag/street car. Reg drive once in a while just to mess around. And yes I would like to put a supercharger on it. No nitrous

Re: Any info will help

Ok... N/A needs higher compression to get power.. Supercharger needs lower compression.

You will have to change the pistons and cam when you go from N/A to supercharger if you plan to build it and use it w/o the charger then add charger later on.

You need a strong bottom end. Scat forged crank, Scat forged rods (if you will be changing pistons later, I recommend bushed rods rather than press fit, because you can then change pistons yourself with out the need of a machine shop). Scat is good middle of the road brand that's strong and won't break the bank.

Pistons.. You must have forged pistons for supercharger use. I like Wisco pro tru for a good middle ground piston.. Not the very best but no where close to the bottom of the list. If you will be N/A to start with and supercharged later you will need to look at piston weights and find your flat top and dish pistons for both useages and keep the weight with in 2 grams so you will not have to re-balance

Heads... For drag race use and supercharged you want good flowing heads. About 190 to 200 cc intake ports.. Brodix IK 200, AFR 195, Dart pro 1

Cam... Hyd. roller or Solid roller and specs can't be known yet as you must match that to compression, boost, etc, but you will want lift in the .570" and up range, closer to .650" the better.
