oil pump driveshaft loose?

Finally installed my melling is55e with the steel collar. I've searched around but just wanted to make sure it was ok. The driveshaft doesn't lock in place on the pump so when I install it in its hole it falls away from the pump. Will it be ok once the engine is back upright?

Steel collars don't lock on like the OEM plastic ones do.

When the engine is upright, the shaft will fall onto the pump. You just need to make sure the distributor sits down far enough to engage into the shaft. Some white grease can help show how far down it sits onto the shaft.
