2.8 idle problems and oil leak advice?
2.8 idle problems and oil leak advice?
I have an 87 2.8 that recently started a rough idle. What started this is I have the natorious oil leak at the back of the engine. I recently replaced the clutch and when I did that I went ahead and replaced the rear main seal and the camshaft cover gasket (initial leak spot was the cam cover as the gasket was bad and the bolts were vibrated lose). After replacing everything it's been about two months and I have about 800 miles on the new clutch. Needless to say the oil pressure sending unit was replaced today along with the distributor o-ring. The sending unit was reading fine until a couple weeks ago and it started fluctuating and I noticed oil down the bellhousing. I replaced the oil pressure sending unit because I figured it needed to after getting false readings with the leak. The new sendig unit keeps fluctuating between 40 and 0 yet I know there's oil in the engine. My next guess after reading up was the intake "s" shaped gasket. But as far as rough idel I took the distributor out (looks like it might just need to be replaced) and when reinstalling it with the new o-ring I installed it back in the same spot on the cam gear as well as the cap in the same spot. I made marks with a paint marker before removing it. Now I have a slightly high idel at startup around 1500-2000 then it drops to 1100 and before it was at about 800-900 and now it has a little revving idel every revolution and I can tell with how copy the exhaust sounds. Any help on both the oil leak and the rough idel (probably just need a new distributor or redo ignition timing) would be greatly appreciated.
