Title says it. Been wanting to die every time i put it in reverse or drive, read a thread that pinpointed the distributor as the problem. Any suggestions appreciated.

 

Doesnt seem like tcc lockup, Comes to a stop just fine and can idle with brakes on and stopped. the timing might be just a hair off, but it idles fine and revs good.

 

What is your base timing set at?

 

Only difference is the module.
But it will work. Won't cause your problem.

 

Theres a thread on here about this. Same exact issue, they tried everything but it came down to the distributor. i have one from a 92 rs 305, and if timing it didnt help id swap that in and give it a shot. So just swap over the little icm module on the dizzy, and should be good ?

but it idles fine, and drives good too. Shifts well, but when dropping it into reverse or drive it dies unless i rev it up a bit before hand

 

Does the icm have some connection to the trans shifting? Maybe like an retard to help drop into gear?

 

Ok, so i added some trans fluid last night, it looked low, and it was still doing same thing. just now i went to check it out and it kicked right into gear, no problems, drive or reverse. Guess it just took a while for the fluid to get through the converter and keep it from sticking and killing the engine. im going to give it a good tune up and set the timing correctly and that should be the last of it for now. i had a bad coil connection once that would make a momentary misfire when the engine rocked (shifting into gear, accelerating) coil wiring could definitely cause it. found an almost broken off wire at the coil connector

 

Yeah im looking to replace the spark plug wires. I have a set Msd 8.5 high performance but the have the little metal contacts sticking out about a half inch on the dist side, for a different style distributor. Im looking to trade for a set that fits my car. Until then i just got to keep checking contacts and hopefully everything goes smoothly.
