I need some help
Alright, so long story short I'm in dire need of some help. I started my 89 Irocz this morning and the car started up fine. She was running for about a minute then all of the sudden the engine died and the MIL turned. Naturally I tried to start her again and she won't turn over, the MIL turned on again when I tried for the second and third time. If anyone could help or give me any ideas of what it could possibly be, I'd really appreciate that. Thanks in advanced.
Update: I just tested the fuel pump, it is working.

Re: I need some help
First thing, use a paper clip to jump the A and B terminals on the ALDL connector to make the SES/MIL light to flash the code it has stored. With the key on and the engine off that light should always be on. If it only flashes 1..2.. over asnd over then there is no stored code. What do you mean by "she won't turn over"? Too many people refer to that meaning the engine doesn't start or none of the cylinders will fire. Turn over is used when the starter will not crank the engine. So does the starter turn the engine over? If it does, the next step is to check for spark. If it doesn't, next thing to check is if the starter is getting power and if it gets power to the solenoid when the key is turned to the start position.
Finally, it helps if you give more information. 89 Iroc only means so much and a few things can change when troubleshooting. Fill out your profile, is it an automatic? 305 tbi? 305 tpi? 350 tpi? Or is it something that's been swapped out? like a carbed 327? At this point it doesn't make much of a difference but that can change.

Re: I need some help
Alright, thanks for replying and for the help. Also, sorry for being so vague. So I used a ignition tester to see if there were any sparks, I tested several of the plugs(on a 5.7L 350tpi v8) and got nothing. And what I mean is the engine cranks but wont start up, sorry about that. If you'd like I could always post a video of me trying to start her up and send you the link.

Also I just went outside and put a paperclip between the A and B terminals and after a couple seconds the MIL started flashing, so there'rs no stored codes.

Possible coil or ign module. Most likely to be the module. It's under the distributor cap. If you take it to a decent auto parts store they can test it before you buy one.

Re: I need some help
Ign control modules do randomly go out like that, so yeah, that's the likely suspect. I'd make sure to test it before replacing it due to it being one of several possible problems.

Re: I need some help
So I took the distributor cap off and what I saw was pretty appalling, the inside of the cap was really corroded and it looks like the icm is upside down, I don't even know how the car was running. It gets better, one of the bolts holding it in place looks like it's been snapped, I currently don't have the tools to cut into it so I can take it out. Any ideas with how to go about that?

Plugs are possibly fouled out from fuel but no spark. Take a plug out and see what I looks like.
