Brake Fluid Reservoir Lid Is Spongy

On my 88, I just popped the the lid off the brake fluid to add a few ounces, and when I put it back on it doesn't have a nice snap or click sound. It's easy to pop it off again, too, not much resistance. No leaks, and brakes work fine. Leave well enough alone?

Thanks

There are 4 clips two on each side. One may have snapped. I just bought a new one and after adding new fluid it cracked coming off.. Stuff isn't made like it used to be

Re: Brake Fluid Reservoir Lid Is Spongy

Apie, thanks for answering. Yeah, I do have all 4 clips still good (except one which is half chipped off). But I found out what the problem was: the rubber mat on the bottom of the lid had somehow stuck to the metal tub when I took off the lid, and I didn't realize that was uncool. Once I stuck the rubber mat back in it's grooves on the bottom of the lid, where it's supposed to be, it worked like a charm. It made a nice snapping sound, and even a quisssshhk vacuum sound when I closed it up this time. Life is good once again with a fully sealed brake fluid reservoir.

Glad you got it figured out! I learned my lesson. The brand new auto zone quality one zipped the rubber and snapped in a month. Ugh!
