Stalling in reverse/losing power in drive
I have an ’84 Firebird (KITT conversion). Last September I was backing up into a spot and the car stalled on me as I was in reverse. Later driving home the car felt like it was losing power and shut off on me. It’s been sitting in my garage since. I have no idea what to do. My dad thinks maybe the transmission might need to be rebuilt. I know the transmission fluid was NEVER replaced ever when I bought it back in ’01 still to this day.
It’s a V6 with carb. The engine was replaced with a ’91 pickup truck years ago. The idling is too high and it taps really loud.
I rarely drive the car cause I’m afraid to get stuck. I try to stay local with it. I know next to nothing about cars and am clueless about what to do. ANY help would be appreciated.
