Fuel filler neck position

Hello

Today I mounted my repaired fuel tank. Now I'm not sure about how the position of the filler neck in relation to the black housing that also holds the fuel door lid should be. There's an oval hole inside and my filer neck is quite a bit upwards from the middle. Left to right it's almost in the middle, a bit more to the left.

As I didn't take a picture before I removed the tank, I'm not sure whether the neck should be exactly in the middle of the hole or not. I had a hard time already adjusting it until the neck went through the housing. Would be grate to have a few pictures of your cars with opened fuel door lid.

Thanks,
Thomas

Re: Fuel filler neck position

Hello Thomas,

I had to re-solder my neck a few months back, in this position your neck will be dead center of the hole in the plastic insert.....

Re: Fuel filler neck position

Hm well, so the original position was in the middle. Is there a "trick" or so to get it right when remounting the tank or is it just a trial and error?

Thanks for the picture by the way :-)

I don't really know Thomas, the other pic shows it all off center. My neck was cracked and loose on the tank, when I repaired it I made it the way it should have been. Centered in the insert.....

@GT4373

Thank you for the picture. Could you try to make one that's taken from a higher point of view? Just so that you can see the position in the insert? In your picture it looks as if it's also a bit more to the top. Have you ever taken down the tank and reinstalled it or is this the factory position?

Thanks,
Thomas

Re: Fuel filler neck position

Hm, well from your new picture (thanks a lot!) it makes me feel mine is really too close to the top of the insert. Still it's hard to tell from the picture because of the angle (point of view). So in your opinion would you say it's quite centered?

Maybe anyone can also tell me about the importance of the neck being centered or not? I mean, someone should know what is right (or possible) and what is wrong.

Thomas,

It's really not important for the neck to be centered in the insert, It was however important to me. I can't stand seeing a picture hanging on the wall crooked, I felt the same way about my filler neck.

Also, I didn't want the insert touching the filler neck at all, I feel the neck had been in contact which the extra vibration caused the solder to crack loose.

For what it's worth, here's a pic with the insert with my camera held at the same angle as the fill neck.....
