89 Iroc Z lymp mode

I have a 89 Iroc Z 305, 5 Speed, as soon as the car gets hot it goes into limp mode, check engine lite on, and if you shut it off won't start again until it cools right down. Its not overheating, I've change pcm, all 8 injectors, fuel pump and am basically stumped, the code reader we have won't read while car is running so no way to no exactly what code. It just says intermittent problem when code reader is on. Any help would be greatly appreciated, its been 4 years since I've actually been able to drive the car for a decent distance and would love to get it back on the road.

When it won't start check for spark, fuel pressure, & fuel injector pulse.

Re: 89 Iroc Z lymp mode

are you sure it's not overheating? quite frequently the temp guages are inaccurate on these cars. get a laser temp gun and aim it at the thermostat housing and get a true reading.

if it's going into limp mode it may be because one of the sensors the ECM uses to monitor the vehicle is not working properly. O2, TPS, IAC, and CTS all come to mind, they are cheap to replace and can all be tested to ensure they are working properly. sometimes the ECM will not always throw a code for these

I believe it is the coolant temperature sensor. Maybe the sensor is bad, therefore the computer dumps too much fuel causing flooding. Just an idea...
