Shifter Cable Grommet - can't locate one!

Hey gang - 88 Trans Am 350 TPI 5.7L. I am having a hell of a time trying to find this one little grommet. Its the one that goes into the top/side of the transmission where the shifter cable comes in. I called a GM parts dealer and the part is discontinued. It is GM part number 10026725. I've called all the major auto stores in my area and nobody has it. Online searches also aren't helping much. Can anyone assist me in finding a place that has this thing?

Thank you!

It's the grommet that goes into the top / passenger side of the transmission where the shifter cable comes in. It's right next to the dipstick tube. Obviously if it's from a used car, it's got to be in really good condition. But would love to see what you have as I need one as soon as possible.

Ok cool, I'll run out to the shop in a few min and see how these look. I got a couple of old 700r4s sitting out there. I will take a couple of pictures for you

Re: Shifter Cable Grommet - can't locate one!

I'm very surprised no one else had any input. I can't imagine I'm the only one who had this issue. But here's an UPDATE - after several hours of online searching, I FINALLY find a replacement part. The original GM part number was discountinued and just doesn't anymore...even at the online stores that supposedly specialize in those types of parts. There is a NEW gasket seal with a different #. It's GM 25518260. That is a seal compatible with many cars, including my 700R4 GTA. Was able to get it directly from the dealer for $10.00.

I will say that is is a PAIN to get the new seal and cable sleeve installed. The two just didn't want to slide into the top of the transmission. I struggled for a good hour trying to force it in without breaking something. In case anyone else has the same problem, here's what worked for me: I put the seal in first and then heated it up with a heat gun to soften the rubber a bit. Carefully, I then wiggled the detent cable sleeve into it. It wasn't easy at all. But with enough force and wiggling, it finally came down. And I'm confident I didn't break the seal in the process.

So now we wait to see if the tranny leak returns. As this is certainly not a job I want to do again anytime soon. Thanks.

Is this the seal you're talking about?
