Issues with my fuel tank installation

I took my tank out so I could install the new pump and the anti-squeak strips were shot. What did you guys use, or would recommend, to replace them?

back in the olden days (early 90's) we'd use old bicycle inner tubes for stuff like this, but i'm sure you can spend a lot of money at a restoration place if that makes you feel better.

Re: Issues with my fuel tank installation

Without looking it up, I either bought a repro set on ebay for a 67-69 firebird or one for a 70-81. Anyway, even though it was for the wrong years it still worked fine. I forget if they could use it as is or trimmed it any. I think they said it was fine as is. Or you could buy the factory set I just saw on ebay a second ago when I went looking to see what I bought, lol.

Also, after looking it was the 67-69 set I bought.

Ya there is no way I would have put the tank back in without putting strips on it. That thing was a pain to get out and I don't want to have to do it again not to mention the safety aspect.

I ended up going with a set of GM resto ones I found on eBay for $18.

Re: Issues with my fuel tank installation

there really is no "safety" aspect- once you tighten those straps down, the tank simply does not move at all.. GM put them there to dampen noise from the tank.

Re: Issues with my fuel tank installation

I figure if they were there from the factory then there must be a purpose for them Lol! Also if I didnt replace them then Im sure a hole would get rubbed in the tank somehow since thats how my luck works out...
