needs a little excitment

hello, I just got ahold of a 92 z28 convertible, 305 auto.

Its a beautiful lower mileage car, but it needs help in the performance department.

I was wondering if you guys could point me in the right direction as far as upgrades go , what parts and what the benefit will be, This car is 100 percent stock. with all emissions gear, Also im in Alberta Canada there is no emission testing

like exhaust ? what's good and how much power gain should I expect.
TPI upgrades or stealth ram ? and how much power gains.
performance chips or tips? and so on

keep in mind in time, I will build a 350 or 383 to swap in it so I would like to upgrade now prior to that and use the same parts on the new engine,

Unleash you expertise,
thank you

Its a stock 305 auto.. So you are not going to get the "excitement" you want from that. With that being said, you mentioned that it was "low milage". A 92 vert stock, low milage car is getting harder and harder to come by. Yes you can start swapping out the exhaust, intake, cam even tranny on the 305 and get some HP gains. You can throw a 350/383 in it for the excitement you want. But remember, you currently have a unmolested, low milage, 25th anniversary, convertible. Please keep it that way.

Stauf is right, don't change all the engine stuff, you will regret it in the long run. I am kinda speaking from experience.
Change the rear gear and do a cat back exhaust, this will give you some much need pickup. Save your old parts.

Personally I feel like the 305 has a good amount of power. Bird is pretty light though.

My plan to "waken it up" was a new holly intake. But don't mod ANY components of the engine and spend money unless you plan on swapping in a 350 later on. If you do mod it, make it compatible with the 350. Such as the intake I plan to put on. Otherwise an exhaust (complete) and rear gears will defiantly make it fun

NO. Your car will then cut off at around 88mph. Ask me how I know. Wish I would have went with 323s or no more than 342s. Now I will have to get a chip burned to defeat the speed limiter.

I have 3:42 in my 91 vert with the 305 and am happy with them. If you drive on the hwy. more than around town go with the 3:23

if you changed your speedo gear wouldn't that make the difference. or does the governor work off of something else

Its not a mechanical speedo gear like im used to its a VSS and its a lil more complicated and hard to find parts for.
