Worn shifter cable, should I just get a B&M shifter?

Hey guys, For the past couple of weeks I kept having to readjust the shifter linkage because I keep randomly losing park due to the stretched out linkage. I've read on here that the autozone and Reman shifter linkage cables are absolute garbage and the only way to get a good one is to track down a used one in good condition or buy NOS. Local junkyard doesn't have any thirdgens and I've always wanted a B&M shifter to have some occasional fun with. Transmissions only 2 years old so not worried about the B&M tearing it up.

If you guys were in my position, would you just upgrade to the B&M or spend the time and find a used stock linkage that is in possibly good condition? is the B&M one made for thirdgens the best bang for the buck? thanks

Only you can decide what works best for you !!

I've got a stock cable, There's a rip in the end of the boot - but nothing a ZIP-tie probably couldn't fix,... $35 shipped.

When mine went I had to have it towed because it stuck in reverse and I have no parking brake. They made one for me. $45. Works like brand new

a cheap replacement can be made to work. the big issue with them is the attachment clip at the trans end, but you can work with it.

thought the B&M used the stock cable?

Nope, I've got that shifter sitting in a box in my garage. Won't fit at all with my 4th gen consoles auto plate. Need to get the manual console plate. The attachment at the shifter is different. Also need the bracket that bolts to the trans that the trans end of the cable bolts on.

anyone know how smoothly the install goes? I heard that it's not too bad but is there any tips or things to look out for?

From installing ratchet shifters in other cars I assume the hardest part will be adjusting the cable. And that's not bad at all.

Installed it yesterday, actually wasn't too bad until I got to the shifter cable routing, making that loop on top of your trans is a lot harder than I thought it would be, adjusting the linkage went pretty smooth as well except climbing out from under just to move from low gear to park over and over. Also screwing in the shifter indicator cable mount onto the shifter while its in the car is a pain in the *** as well. I was thinking of a couple other small things b&m could of changed to make installation better while I was installing yesterday but they aren't coming to my mind now. Installing this would of been a breeze if the center console wasn't in the car.
