Weak crank and another no start scenario

So I went out and bought myself another non-running camaro,
This one is a 1988 2.8L MPFI sport coupe camaro (243,000km). And I got it towed to my house. This car was running just about over a month ago, it had been running and on the road before that, and when it began to run "sluggish" the previous owner purchased the car, it then deteriorated to stop running entirely. This is where I came in. I picked up this car for $450 and figured I could breath some life into this car, but I could use your guys help. I replaced the battery cables in the car which had previously been poorly wired over the post style battery cables. I switched over to the side screw type, however it made no difference in starting the car. With a fully charged battery in the car (A brand new battery from my DD camaro) the battery gauge reads half on the gauge and when I turn the ignition key the crank sounds really weak like instead of rer-rer-rer-rer, its more like ruur-ruur-ruur, I have a 1984 parts car with a functional starter i could try. Anyways this starter just sounds weak compared to my parts car, it sounds like it has a nearly dead battery in it, however its definitely not the battery. I thought there was a "new" starter in it from the previous owner, but maybe it was a used one. I checked for spark and I definitely do have it, I have not checked the compression yet, and don't quite know how to check the fuel pressure on this fuel injected model. It doesn't even turn over or anything, just cranks and that's it. Maybe you guys can give me a push in the right direction here, the car cranks (but sounds weak), has gas in the tank, has a good battery. what am i missing? One more note, the car has a rear pull down motor hatch which did work before I bought it, however I cannot get any response from it while the battery is hooked up, it simply doesnt even try to pull the hatch closed. any way to test it, or just install a non power one? thanks again guys

Re: Weak crank and another no start scenario

with that many miles, and probably no known service or usage history . i would do a compression test first. as in sufficient compression WILL cause a no start condition. it is possible the starter presently on your car is worn out . swap in a known good one . and do the comp test. and go from there

Thanks for the reply, I will go out and buy a compression gauge to do those tests, I almost have the starters swapped so I will report back when I have results back from that, then we can go from there

The most up to date post about this car is right here

Still doesn't run right, but at least it runs now.
