Re: Spark plugs for vortec heads

they "are" slightly longer than the ones on earlier 350's . I don't recall the number but I got AC delco's for a 3/4 ton G.M. P/U . have been fine for me . good luck ...

Will these plugs work with shorty headers or will they cause clearance problems like rubbing on the headers ???? When u hook the wire up to it

Re: Spark plugs for vortec heads

I pulled the # from a 97 truck, then had the guy at the counter bring me each of the available plugs. Champion was the shortest on the insulator side. Ive ran them for years now without burning a boot.

I can try and get the number this evening. Got the box in the garage.

Yea I wish I had hedmen shorties but the car when I bought had flowtech shorties and y pipe already on so I'm not gonna swap out a 350+ dollar exhaust just to swap to hedmen which would be about the same price but I'll buy one of the vortec plug and test fit if not I'll have to get those accel shorty plugs which I really don't wanna use

Re: Spark plugs for vortec heads

What flowtech headers you have? I just put a set on my vortec 350 and the plug clearance is the absolute best I've seen so far coming from 2 sets of longtube headers.
I have the autolite ap 104 plugs.

Rs 14yc. Champions is the ones I'm running I think. Empty box in my camaro stuff. I'd have to google the number to make sure if the right reach. Do not waste your time with accel shorties. They don't last. Went through 2 sets before I learned

yea the accel are the ones im using now the only reason why im using these is because I pretty sure the standard size plug will hit on the headers and burn up plug wires which I don't want to happen

I understand, that's why I ran them too. I just couldn't get any life out of them. But the champion is very short as well and I haven't had any issue with burning the plug wires on my headers. I will try and get a comparison pic if I can. Im fixing to order a new set.

That would be great if u can get mostly the lenght of the plug with like a vortec plug that would be great

Re: Spark plugs for vortec heads

Ok everyone so I did some test fitting today and it seems like a normal lenght plug will clear just fine with the flowtech shorty headers looks like I'll be picking up a full set of vortec plugs hopefully this weekend I'll keep everyone posted on how it turns out hopefully the car will run now with these instead of those crappy accel ones

Re: Spark plugs for vortec heads

I finally went and got my plugs and took a pic comparing the champion to the overrated accel shorties. Look over the fact that the accel isn't a vortec plug. Previous owner ran the wrong plug.

Re: Spark plugs for vortec heads

Nice.. Looks like the champion might be 1/16" to 1/8" longer. Not bad at all

Re: Spark plugs for vortec heads

Yea I installed my vortec plugs a couple of days and the car still doesn't want to run I think it's something wrong with the tuning file I'm using I don't know what else it could be
