Will OEM air cleaner still fit?

Sirs,
I am having an Edelbrock intake 3701 installed in my car. It is around an inch and a half taller than the OEM intake. Will I be able to bolt back on the OEM air cleaner and still be able to close the hood? thanks, gents.

Probably not.

If you have a Camaro, your odds are better. It certainly won't fit with the Bird hood.

If it does close it will rub. I went with an edelbrock air cleaner for my 86 to fix the issue.

jharrison5,
Trying to do an OEM resto on this firebird. So it's got to look like it came from the factory as much as possible.

re: Will OEM air cleaner still fit?

Copied from the thread in the Carb section:

"w41, I don't think you'll have a problem.
The car in my sig runs a Vortec/Q-jet Edelbrock Performer 2116, height of 4.57" as opposed to your 3701 height of 4.02".
The stock air cleaner just touches the Formula hood and wears the paint from the front edge of the air cleaner lid.
I'd be surprised if your hood has an additional 1/2" of structure inside it compared to mine. For all I know the s/e and Formula hood are one in the same."

Re: Will OEM air cleaner still fit?

The 3701 is ~1/2" higher at the carb mount than a stock intake manifold. You shouldn't have any problem with the stock air cleaner, other than the breather tube to the valve cover may barely reach.
