Serpentine routing without A.C or Smog
Serpentine routing without A.C or Smog
Installing a 90-92 SD TPI engine in a 94 Chevy truck. Only require the alternator and power steering pump. I have an extra A/C delete pulley...anyone out there running only the alternator and power steering pump via a stock TPI serpentine setup...if so how did you route the belt, have a belt part number?
The truck was diesel so I don't have the OEM SBC setup which probably wouldn't work with a TBI serpentine setup anyway because the TPI thermostat housing neck and air intake routing is not compatible with the TBI serpentine.

Change the smooth tensioner pulley to a 6-rib pulley.
These are easy to find in plastic. The back / spokes won't perfectly clear the tensioner, some grinding will let it clear. Or a steel ribbed pulley should clear the tensioner.
No AC nor AIR pump delete pulleys needed.

Sounds more like what I prefer to do...you don't have a routing diagram or belt part number ..do you?

I have a set up like that in my bird I had to take a piece a string and wrap it around the pulleys in the pattern I wanted and then just went to the part store and find the right length on my tensioner itself the belt is backwards and the tensioner is at and odd angle so it doesn't have full movement but it works. I will post some pics here in a bit. I was going to switch to a ribbed pulley like JMD suggested but I totally forgot about it until I read this thread, and that has lasted me 3 years with no squeaking or extra wear

You can route your belt like nuggie or you can wrap the water pump in between crank & power steering.
Hold the tensioner so the arrows line up, set up a string tightly, and measure the resulting string length.

I have smog here and it's 120 in the summer; do you think I did that with my car?
