Advise on 383 build.
So I've been gathering parts and I'm just about ready to start the build. I'd like comments on the part selection and advise on a roller cam please.
Parts on hand:
1. Eagle balanced 383 rotating assembly 1 piece seal, flat tops
2. Eddy e-Tec 200cc heads
3. Summit air gap dual plain
4. Comp pro mag 1.6 rollers
5. Msd pro billet hei
6. Holley 600hp/ or 670 street avenger
Is a summit stroker block going to be sufficient or is it nessesary to step up to a more expensive block? Blueprint maybe?
What type of roller cam should I be looking at? I'm ditching the flat tappet currently in the 350
Does the part selection look to be selected well? I realize component matching is important but this is what I currently have on hand.
Car is 1985 iroc currently has th350 with summit 2800 stall and 3.42 gears with factory posi
Any and all comments and critique are welcome. Also any speculation on performance is appreciated. Thanks for reading

Re: Advise on 383 build.
I'd call Comp, Lunati, or a major manufacturer and see what they say. Lot's of knowledge to tap into. Sometimes with TPI (or some other factors), forums like this can be the best source, but for a good ole carbed 383, there's nothing exotic, nothing specific, nothing crazy. It's been done a zillion times. No reason not to call the pros. JM2C
Make sure they know you're planning on running 1.6 rockers. For the record, I talked and researched for months, got a ballpark idea on what I wanted, and talked to Mike at Lunati and in 5 minutes, he came up with almost exactly what I was planning. I was happy to hear that. Lunati, in my experience, was FAR more friendly and helpfull than comp...but that's not to say more knowledgable. Again....2 cents.
As for the block, you're fine with the Summit block. Blueprint is kinda shady. Google it, see for yourself. ...regardless, they're all just remanned GM blocks, unless otherwise noted. You can get new from GM, but it's not necessary. ...and then of course aftermarket blocks, but that's way overkill.
Finally....those Etecs are great heads! -Make sure you have the right size carb. I'm not overly experienced with carbs, but my thinking is a 670 might be small for a 210 head/383. Could be wrong, just look into it.

Maybe alittle more carb to go with a cam around 230 deg at .050 and it will be a hot street combo

Re: Advise on 383 build.
If its motly for street use I would see if you can swap out the 210 heads for a set of 195s. The 210 will want more cam and make less torque. I would think a cam like the 292XFI would be a good choice for the 210s. I'll repost a good post by AFR's old friend Tony Momo about 210 vs 195 heads in a 383:
Whats the right head for this application.....in a very heavy car you might consider the 195 Comp port....a 300 CFM+ head with a very moderate cross section, or step up to the 210 Comp which would also work well in the application you descibe, especially if you always run quarter mile (versus eigth mile) and the car isnt very heavy (less than 3400 with driver).
In pure track application with the cam you describe and healthy static compression for pump gas (11 - 11.25 to 1), the 210's would likely produce the best results, BUT, the 195 Comps might 60 foot a little better ET just shy of the 210's and probably trap 1-2 MPH less.
However....if you care at all about street manners, throttle response, and drivability, the smaller 195 Comps would get the nod there and run just a tick or two behind the 210's at the track as I descibed above.
In the order of pure track performance yuor choices would be...
210 Comp head
195 Comp head
210 Steet head (least expensive option....same trap speed as the 195 Comp with less ET due to a softer 60 foot and eigth mile time....not as crisp on the street)
Hope this helps...
Feel free to call me at AFR if you would like to run anythinig else by me

Cheers,
Tony
PS....You dont have a single bad choice in the bunch....only good choices that will place various emphasis's on the combination!
PSS....the 195 Comp head would rip to about 7200 RPMs with an explosive midrange (and the best part throttle perfromance)....the 210 Comps would likely see an additional 2-300 RPM before running out of breath and would require a 7400-7500 shift point for maximum effectiveness.

I edited the original post. Somehow typed that the heads were 210cc and they are actually 200cc. Again thanks to all for the advice and time taken to reply. Special thanks to valve motion for crunching the numbers through the simulator for me. You guys have been a great help.

With the 200 heads then, do you know what your compression ratio will be? That'll really help in picking out a cam.

Re: Advise on 383 build.
It looks like with the -12cc pistons I'll be right around10.3:1. Got some advice that would be safer for my needs and tuning skill level than using -5 cc flat tops and running 11:1. This is a street car and I'm inexperienced at tuning. I've been told running 11:1 comp that the tune will need to be spot on. I have no way of checking afr or access to a dyno.

Re: Advise on 383 build.
The 280XFI by comp cams is really popular for 383s with good heads and at least 10:1 compression ratio. I ran it for a bit in mine before I pulled it and was happy with it. Still have it if your interested in buying one. Howard's cams has a good can also, forget it's duration ATM but it's similar. You could also go with a magnum series can by comp, 286HR.

Any suggestions on roller lifters? Will gm be ok? Or should I get aftermarket?

Re: Advise on 383 build.
In my 2003 silverado SS I put in the same ls7 lifters when I swapped to cnc'd ls6 heads. On LS motors you have to pull the heads to change lifters so I just went ahead and replaced the lifters while the heads were off. I've prob put 80,000 miles on them with no prob. Although the cam in the truck is mild by LS standards. 220/224 .581/.581 112.
