Do I need a billet timing cover for a retrofit cam/cam button?

So...doing a cam swap on my non roller 383. The old, AND new set up is a Lunati retrofit cam, and I have a billet cover. Guy who built the motor said it was necessary. I've thrown around the idea of using EFI Connection's 24x set up, which requires a cam sensor, which means the composite vortec timing cover. I would think the pressure on the cam would pull it back towards the oil pump gear, right??? ....but I see other people mention heavy duty or billet covers for retro set ups too.

...anyhow....figured I'd ask.

Luckily I had the engine out of my car when I went with a billet cober. I had to file down where the gaskey went because it was not machined right. Guaranteed leak... I guess that's what you get with a $40 dollar speedmaster cover versus a $200 comp cams billet cover. I hope it doesn't leak.

I can't answer your question, but I got the Comp Cams billet 3-piece timing chain cover, part # CCA-310, for my current 383 build, so I don't have to disturb the oil pan seal when changing timing or cams. Gasket provided and overall product quality says made in the USA (so does the price , hell it's 1 time cost).
What block # are you using?

I don't have the block # with me here at work. I can look at home. I KNOW the existing billet cover works/seals with no problems. ....and the more I look at it, it's not likely I'll go with the 24x set up, in which case the existing billet cover will be used.
