Check the oil pressure sending unit. I *think* that your fuel pump runs only when the sending unit is operating in range.
Any thoughts anyone?
Re: 86 trans am
The '86 uses a cold start injector. Once that fuel is used, if the service injectors are not providing the correct fuel flow the engine may die.
As recommended above, check the standing fuel pressure and flow, and monitor the pressure as the engine starts. It may be informative.

The oil pressure switch is a parallel path for power to the fuel pump. If the fuel pump relay fails the pump will receive power through the oil pressure switch once oil pressure is above about 7 PSI.
You may very well be on the right track about fuel delivery. For whatever reason is would seem that fuel is missing shortly after cranking.
