overheat at idle

Im getting frustrated, swapped out 305 tbi for a carbed 305, starts right up, but overheats quick, but I just noticed today if i rev it up to say 2000 rpm's the temperature drops, do i have a bad water pump ? The wrong style water pump ? When I let off the gas it immediately heats right back up. Timing seems ok, also when I rev it up.......the upper radiator hose collapses a little as the rpm's go back down.

Re: overheat at idle

Sounds like the radiator isn't flowing as it should, may try having it flushed and if that don't work you may wind up replacing it.

Re: overheat at idle

wrong rotation water pump could cause that-they will pump the correct direction, but very weak flow if turning wrong rotation.
