Fuel pump compatibility 89 TTA vs Buick GN
Sorry if this is redundant, I'm a noob, but could use help. I have a 1989 Turbo TA, and trying to keep original. Has intermittent hot start issues, and dealer (Buick) recommended a new fuel pump.
They installed PN: 25116154, which shows as pump for GN/GNX Buicks. When I research, I'm coming up with PN 25163473.
I still have intermittent start issue, alternator/battery are good. No VATS issue (that I can tell).
Should I make them redo the fuel pump? Or are they in essence the same?

Re: Fuel pump compatibility 89 TTA vs Buick GN
I'm not sure if they are the same, but most Port-fuel-injection EFI pumps from the 80s were essentially identical from the factory and just bolted into the fuel pump pickup assy (which DID vary from model to model). Flow rates and operating pressures were all about the same with the exception of the boosted cars which had to pump at higher pressures under boost than a N/A motor, obviously.
It's also possible that the pump for the TTA is simply unavailable now. TTAs were very rare birds. And, by the way, I envy that you have one.
If it's holding pressure under boost, it's probably accomplishing the same job. That being said, I would still go back and make them explain why they installed the GN pump instead of the one the TTA calls for. Maybe you get a good, logical answer, maybe you get one that makes you never want to go back there again.
Personally, I would have had a local garage install a Walbro 255 and be done with it. It'll out-pump anything the factory used in that era. But that's not going to help your starting problem regardless.

Damon,
Thanks for the info. I hear you on the Walbro, but my long story short- this was my first try with a dealership resolving the hot start issue (they aren't gaining my confidence). I'm definitely going to ask for an explanation. Someone on another forum suggested that over the years it could be that you get in essence the same pump under either part number (or at least would meet the original performance specs)..
