Nut in timing chain cover

As crazy as this sounds I dropped the set screw off a poly lock into the intake valley and it went down the timing cover hole. I had the rest plugged. Any way I heard it fall down fairly far.

I plan on pulling the cover but I wanted to know if there was any way it could have made it into the pan? I would be happy to drain the oil and see if it comes out first before starting to take all the crap off to pull the cover.

More than likely, yes.

Absitively posolutely, ... no.

I dropped a lifter one time... exited out the pan in a beautiful .843" hole... musta landed on the pan baffle and the crank hit it... no other damage.

Thanks, I have seen some impressive things make their way to the pan including big chunks of valve springs. I will rotate the engine by hand a few times and check the pan by draining it

Re: Nut in timing chain cover

you might try dragging a relatively strong magnet from the cover down across to the drain plug area. kinda walk it to there. might get lucky?
