Ticking Engine

This engine is a brand new 350 just a year old and with only 300 miles on it. Yesterday i decided to check how it was running and heard a rapid ticking by the alternator and would like some ideas from you guys that are more experienced with this than iam. Im just hoping it needs motor flush and nothing major.

Re: Ticking Engine

Ticking could be either valve out of adjustment or a small exhaust leak at the manifold. If you have headers try snugging up the mounting bolts.

What kind of cam are you running?

Re: Ticking Engine

Doesn't need "motor flush" unless you put ALOT of ... something that doesn't belong ... in it while building it.

Loosen the belt and see if it's an accessory.

Above advice is good: those are 2 of the next most likely things.

Adjust the valves with the engine running.

If it ticks only just slightly when idling but MUCH louder when accelerating, it's a compression or exhaust leak. Pull the spark plugs and put dielectric grease on the threads and put them back in making sure they're tight: if you see brown stuff on the threads you've been having a leak there.
