Hard starting
Hard starting
I have a 1988 RS with 2.8 v6 nearing 170000 on clock
I bought it in 93 with just over 50000 miles, and has been a "problem"
as long as I have had it. It can sit in garage, during winter hibernation,
and start right up on first turn of key, but if after driving for awhile
re-starting it acts like a Chrysler 400 of the 70's take a lot of cranking
to fire up. I have had numerous mechanics check it out and nobody
can figure out the cause, not a major problem, just an annoyance
Has anyone else experienced this and any idea what can cause it
to act this way?? All responses appreciated

Re: Hard starting
is it a carb'd engine? i would be looking at vapour locks. the fuel lines run close to the headers which heats up the fuel and puts a big vapour bubble in there. mechanical pushers were installed in later models with carbs (1987) to push the fuel from the tank and clear the bubble with mixed success
Re: Hard starting
Not carb'd multi port injection
The problem is not consistent, some times start on first crank, more
often have to crank longer
Thanks for reply

Re: Hard starting
Try putting it to the floor when it does that. If its like mine the injectors were bad. SAME type of problem. If it starts when to the floor it could be it and make sure you check fuel pressure isnt bleeding off, leaking inj. Allan

Re: Hard starting
There is a table that may zero IPW when cranking above a certain throttle %.
